Gateway 7 - Design and Modeling
(1 Quarter)
Students begin to recognize the importance of engineering in our society. They are introduced to and use an engineering design process to solve problems and understand the influence that creative and innovative design has on our every lives. Students use industry standard 3D modeling software to create a virtual image of their designs. UnitsIntroduction
Unit 1.1: STEAM In this unit, students will be introduced to the topic of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). Students will be introduced to what engineers do, different fields of engineering, and how STEAM is important in their everyday lives. Unit 1.2: Engineering Design Process Students will create a roller coaster. Then, students will walk through the process of creating the roller coaster with the purpose of recognizing that they intuitively use the engineering design process. Design and Modeling Unit 1.3: Measurement Students create their own ruler with a piece of paper by dividing the ruler into half multiple times while properly labeling it. Students then measure a number of objects with a ruler to 1/8. 1/16, and 1/32 of a inch. Unit 1.4: Sketching and Engineers Students are introduced to various types of sketching. Students create their own sketches of objects as well as create 3D objects based on the drawings Unit 1.5: Design for Production Students will use a computer aided design (CAD) software to create parts, assemblies, and multi-view drawings. Students then fabricate their design in the shop area of the classroom. |
